Pilotage consists in an amount of Professional activities of assistance to the commander, required by local peculiarities, wich may make difficult the free and safe transit of ships. It’s formed by a pilot, the pilot’s speedboat and the lookout (Pilotage Station).
The pilot is a sailor, non-member of the crew, that does the pilotage on board.
The pilot’s speedboat is the boat ratified by the Port Capitain to be used as transport by the pilot to go on/off board.
The Pilotage Station is the operative and administrative structure, ratified by the National Pilotage Bureau, that has the capability of providing, managing, controlling and supporting the attendance of the pilot to the boats, neath a PZ (pilotage zone), during the entrance and exiting maneauver in ports and terminals and in the navigations within a PZ, allowing the continuous availability and the efficient performance of the Pilotage Service.
